Stella Jang is a singer-songwriter who made her debut in 2014 with the digital single ‘Dumped Yesterday’. Her real name is Jang Sungeun, and her artist name was made up by one of her teachers in France. Recently she appeared in the TV series ‘ The Brainiacs’ and made a huge impression on the public. Let’s find out more about this versatile artist.

< The charms of Stella Jang 3>

1. The songs of everyday life

Many people can understand and empathize with her songs. For example, you may get angry when you hear the song ‘Dumped Yesterday’, thinking of that dumbass who dumped you, and when you hear ‘ Vanishing Paycheck’, you know you’re not the only one who has been waiting for their glorious payday. Fun fact: since the usual payday in Korea is the 25th of each month, you can often hear that song on the radio on that day. It must have evoked the sympathy of many office workers.

Likewise, in the song 'Girl's Generation', listing the names of the members of the idol group Girls Generation, she sings, "I'm not Tiffany, Taeyeon, Seoyeon, or Yoona; I'm just an ordinary girl."  It's not hard for Seoulites to feel a connection to the lyric "I am going to be so rich that I don't have to transfer/I'm going to take a taxi or drive my own car" in the song 'Transfer'.

She's full of witty ideas. I recommend that you to listen to her songs and find out which lyrics comfort you the best. Her voice has some kind of special power to make everything seem better.

2. Swagga

Her music is rooted in folk, but as a high school student, she dreamed of being a rapper, while she admired BigBang and hoped to enter YG Entertainment. Although she decided her genre would be folk after listening to Yoo Heeyeol and Lee Juck, she still loves hiphop, and tends to include at least 8 lines of rap in every single song. You can listen to her rapping with Olltii in the song 'Cheerleader'. Her frank expressions will make you feel refreshed; I would add that 'Dumped Yesterday's lyrics are the most refreshing of all.

Your first impression of the artist might be one which is lyrical and soft, as she uses piano and guitar a lot, but she covers a very wide musical spectrum, from acoustic to hiphop.

3. Colorful

She sings a cappella on the first track 'Colors' from her EP [Colors]. She says  she can be 8 colors - red, yellow, blue, purple, green, pink, black, and white. It means we cannot define her with one style.

She speaks 6 languages: fluent Korean, English and French, as well as some Spanish, Chinese, and German. She appeared on the TV show "Yoo Heeyeol's Sketchbook" and sang 'Passionate Goodbye' in all 6 languages.

She also changes her appearance and hairstyle every time she appears in public. She dyes her hair pink, silver or blond to match her songs.

It's very hard to define someone who has so many charming styles and colors. I'm really looking forward to her next performance and new songs to come.
