If you were at Common in Blu in Hongdae on the afternoon of Sunday Jan 4th, you may have seen some familiar faces.  Bar to wall around the room, one could observe or take part in a lot of engaging conversations, many friendly greetings, new friendships being formed, some networking in action and more than a few drinks being shared among dozens of people who all share a common passion: music.  This is just a taste of what you missed if you were unable to make it to the very first Do Indie and Korea Gig Guide Meet Up, which was held on January 4th at the cozy café/pub just around the corner from Hongik University Station.  Musicians, fans, writers, photographers, engineers, producers and hobbyists alike gathered together to say “Happy New Year,” catch up, and mingle.

The event was considered a successful one by those in attendance, some of whom included the creators and contributors from Do Indie as well as Korea Gig Guide, some musicians from a few of Hongdae’s most popular bands, and even an up-and-coming young director who was filming his first documentary. Common in Blu’s manager, Kyusuck Hwang, who was kind enough to allow the two organizations to hold the event there, had his hands full with the crowd at times, but always managed to keep the music playing.  When asked about the atmosphere over the course of the afternoon, one music fan commented that “it was just a cool meeting of people who like music.”

So, be on the lookout for the next Meet Up and don’t miss out on a truly enjoyable afternoon. Don’t forget to bring your friends, and in the meantime, keep rocking!
