The first time I had the pleasure of seeing The Lads perform, I was not prepared for the blast of energy that was to come from the stage. I left that first show grinning with surprise and have tried my best to catch every performance since. No matter my mood going in, I feel carelessly happy by the second chord every time. With youthful British rock energy and an endless desire to keep everyone around them partying like they’re 20, The Lads never fail to live up to their name. They’re young, hip, and have that beautiful ability to link together punk energy with catchy hooks. There’s a rise and fall to almost every Lads song, with melodies being crunched by punchy guitar riffs, leaving the listener hopelessly deciding between singing along and jumping into a stranger. The guitar riffs are upbeat and addictive, which blend beautifully with their cogent, energetic vocals. The two vocalists complement each other well, and there’s no denying the pure joy felt by the guys on stage. And while their music is hip and their energy on stage is exhilarating to experience, you get the true feeling of the band as you are swept up in the thrill of the crowd around you.
Their first EP, “청춘 (Youth)” was a smashing success. The entire indie scene seemed excited for the release of their first full-length album, “Lads on the Street.” When recording finished, fans packed their shows. At the release party, the excitement level was surprisingly intense, even for loyal fans. The recording is beautifully crafted with new songs and familiar tunes catching your attention from start to finish. It’s hard to go to a Lads show and leave with no bruises, but impossible to leave without a smile. Whenever you find yourself at your next or first show, remember to wear good shoes and keep dancing!
The Lads’ live set is packed full of hook laden and sing-along tracks that will surely get you moving your feet on the dancefloor. The band, who has currently released one EP and one full length album have so far refused offers from various record labels and finance their recordings themselves (with the help of crowdfunding). They continue to stand out as a shining example of a real indie rock band.
